Spy Kids: Armageddon began shooting in Austin in Summer of 2022 and officially wrapped in September. Since then, we’ve been patiently waiting to find out when the new project will air. Now we know that the film will begin streaming on Netflix on September 22, 2023.

Before we get to all of the Austin area filming locations, let’s take a look at the trailer.

You may recognize the actors playing the parents in the film. Gina Rodriguez is best known from Jane the Virgin and Not Dead Yet, among other things. Zachary Levi portrays Shazam in the DC universe and previously played a spy in the TV series Chuck, as well as multiple films throughout the years. The new generation of Spy Kids are played by Yes Day’s Everly Carganilla and newcomer Connor Esterson. Like all of the other Spy Kids films, the feature is directed by Austin’s own Robert Rodriguez.

Here are all the Spy Kids filming locations that we know about!

  • Congress Avenue, as seen in the trailer and our previous post.
  • The Mueller neighborhood near Mary Elizabeth Branch Park
  • A neighborhood in Round Rock
  • Krause Springs in Spicewood
  • An unknown house in Westlake

You can also see the “Jenga” building in an aerial shot of downtown Austin in the trailer. And, of course, all the scenes requiring sets and special effects were shot at Rodriguez’s studios on Old Manor Road.
