The Roof Garden Commission: Petrit Halilaj

Our New York tea spilling correspondent checked out the new roof garden commission at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Here’s Why You Need To Visit The Roof Garden At The Met This Summer

One of the best ways to spend a summer evening in NYC is with a glass of sparkling on the roof garden of the Met Museum as the sun goes down over Central Park. This beautiful venue needs no extra adornment, yet every summer they present a new work with meaning and the beauty of this is beyond compare.

This year sees Petrit Halilaj bring his childhood artistic beginnings to life. When the school he attended as a youth was slated for demolition to make way for a new place of learning, he had the opportunity to visit one last time. While he was sad, the current students were able to show him the beauty of the past while expressing excitement for the future. The desks they explored together that day yielded the material to create this installation. And the inspiration for its content came from the children themselves, the drawings and etchings they had left in those desks over the years were translated into metal and now ice the top of the greatest collection of art in the world.
