There’s a new Christmas movie out that was shot entirely in Texas! You can see A Christmas in New Hope for one week only at EVO Cinemas in Belterra Village on the edge of Austin and Dripping Springs, Texas.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Texas made Christmas movie: A Christmas in New Hope!
Premise
The film tells the story of an aspiring influencer and single mother of a girl living with Down syndrome. At risk of losing her home to foreclosure, she enters a home improvement competition in order to save her bungalow before Christmas. Complications arise as a “Texas-famous” musician moves in next door.
You can watch the trailer here.
Cast
First off, the film is making history because it’s the first Christmas movie to star a child with Down syndrome. Mia Armstrong is one extraordinary little girl (you can learn more about her here). She stars alongside a slew of other actors you may have seen before like Friday Night Lights star Adrianne Palicki.
Also pictured is Malcolm Goodwin who starred on iZombie alongside David Anders who also appears in the film. Anders has been popping up on our TV for years with roles in Once Upon a Time, Alias, The Vampire Diaries and more!
Other actors in the cast include:
- Katrina Bowden (30 Rock, The Bold and The Beautiful)
- Ryan Cooper (And Just Like That, Rough Night)
- Farah White (Miss Congeniality)
- Julia Barnett (Fear the Walking Dead)
- Yolanda Adams (Robocop, Point Blank)
- Victor Hawks
Filming Locations
The film was shot on location in Waco! The houses are located on Columbus Avenue. Other notable locales include: St. Albans Church and Tucker Hall. You’ll also see overhead shots of the bridges and downtown Waco.
Review
There is no doubt in my mind that this film will be picked up by a streaming service. While it seems like Hallmark would be a good fit, I feel like they prefer their own productions. I’m hoping we’ll see it on Amazon, Hulu or Netflix instead. Though, it’s a perfect fit for Hallmark or even Great American Family.
Here’s everything this film combines: Small town Texas, music, two stepping, pretty people, cute kids, a love story, struggle, triumph, hope. Can you think of a better combo? At times it feels like the film was inspired by Hope Floats, Where The Heart Is and, of course, Fixer Upper. Just a few of my faves! I can’t wait to see this film be exposed to a larger audience. It deserves it!
