We love movies, music, theater and nostalgia, so a film called Theater Camp sounds pretty darn perfect for us. We got to see a sneak peek of the new flick.
Here’s What You Need to Know About Theater Camp!
Synopsis: As summer rolls around again, kids are gathering from all over to attend AdirondACTS, a scrappy theater camp in upstate New York that’s a haven for budding performers. After its indomitable founder Joan (Amy Sedaris) falls into a coma, her clueless “crypto-bro” son Troy (Jimmy Tatro) is tasked with keeping the thespian paradise running. With financial ruin looming, Troy must join forces with Amos (Ben Platt), Rebecca-Diane (Molly Gordon), and their band of eccentric teachers to come up with a solution before the curtain rises on opening night
Cast: Noah Galvin, Molly Gordon, Ben Platt, Jimmy Tatro, Amy Sedaris
Filming Locations: Warwick, New York (site of the old Kutz Camp)
Release date: July 21, 2023.
Where to watch: In theaters.
Thoughts: Theater Camp is shot in a documentary style and doesn’t actually feature much singing. I was hoping Ben Platt’s voice would be showcased more. Sadly, he rarely sings. Regardless, this is an enjoyable indie film.
