Brad Pitt is no stranger to the F1 race circuit. The Hollywood heavyweight has been spotted at Formula One races for the past year, including the USGP in Austin, Texas in 2022.
In 2022, Pitt was reportedly scouting and researching for an F1 film. Now, we know it’s an Apple production reportedly titled ‘Apex’ that focuses on a fictional team called APX GP. Pitt plays the role of Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula 1 race driver who returns to the grid for one last season to guide rookie driver Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris.
At the British GP at Silverstone, Pitt got behind the wheel to shoot race scenes for the first time. Throughout the weekend, fans spotted a pit garage for the fictional team, complete with signage, personnel and a Formula 2 car with Formula 1 stylings.
Then, just days later, SAG-AFTRA went on strike. So, what does that mean for filming of the flick? Here’s what we know.
APX once again had a garage and pitwall position at the Hungaroring. Slots were scheduled for the production to have cars on track between sessions. And though filming of a botched pit-stop scene took place, Pitt was not in attendance.
Director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer were there though. As was co-producer Lewis Hamilton, of course.
Cleary, F1 can’t just rearrange the race schedule so Pitt can be there. So, what does that means for the future of the film? Only time will tell. Let’s just hope the strike situation gets figured out ASAP and Pitt can get back on track!
