Luck Reunion is always a good time and this year was no exception. That’s because one of our favorite muppets made a special appearance.

Kermit the Frog joined Willie Nelson on stage to sing “Rainbow Connection.” It was such an unexpected surprise, that, although weeks have passed, we’re still thinking about it!

Willie’s 49th studio album was actually called Rainbow Connection and it featured his cover of the tune from The Muppet Movie. Amy Nelson, Willie’s daughter, heard the song when she was five-years-old and spent the next 20 years trying to talk her dad into recording it. In 2001, he finally did! The album was even nominated for a Grammy for best country album.

Here’s a clip of Willie and Kermit singing together at Luck Reunion 2024:

A little background about Luck Reunion

Luck Reunion is set at Nelson’s Luck Ranch located in Spicewood (sometimes referred to as Luck, Texas). The land was originally used in 1985 as a backdrop for the film Red Headed Stranger and the set was originally supposed to be burned following production. Willie had grown so attached that he decided to preserve the property and built his own home on the sprawling land.

Luck has become a personal hangout for Willie and his friends. In 2012, some dreamers, with Willie’s blessing. began planting the seeds for Luck Reunion. This group of young believers, alongside Nelson family members and Willie’s personal team, came together to honor the creative origins of the magical space and contribute to the all-inclusive and fascinating culture of the famous town.

Luck Reunion started as a one-day event but has bloomed into a community; a platform to share the spirit of Luck and bring together musicians, chefs, and artisans who are contributing to American roots culture in an authentic way.

Our favorite things about Luck Reunion!

  • Being on the property is so special. It’s a ghost town of a good time.
  • Luck is a great place for discovering new music!
  • The drinks are always good. There are plenty of options from everyone’s favorite spirit companies like Tito’s. This year we also sipped on some Aviation Gin!
  • There are little flea style pop up shops where you can always find the coolest pieces. You can even get a few things from Willie’s Reserve. Pro tip: make sure you get things before the end of the night because they will run out.
  • The fashion is like no other. It’s fun to get dressed up yourself or simply people watch to get outfit inspo for the next year. When planning your outfit, be prepared to get a little dusty!
  • Last, but certainly not least, the highlight is seeing Willie Nelson. It’s always a pleasure to see the king of country!
