Hey Dude stars Christine Taylor and David Lascher were in Austin for ATX Television Festival to promote their podcast, Hey Dude…The 90’s Called. While they were in town we got the chance to chat and learned a few things that we thought we should share. So, without further ado, here’s the tea.

Everything we learned about Christine Taylor, David Lascher and Hey Dude at ATX Television Festival

Christine and David used to be a couple!

During their panel, the audience was surprised to learn that the co-stars dated during most of the time on the series. Christine said they were babies and there were a lot of ups and down but it’s obvious that they’re good friends now. They went on to say that their partners (including Taylor’s hubby Ben Stiller) are very supportive of their partnership and the podcast! Beverly Hills, 90210‘s Jennie Garth was also on the panel for her podcast 90210MG. She reminded Lascher that they also dated…on 90210. Well, kind of. If you’re a true 90210 fan, you know what we’re saying.

The duo previously reunited at ATX Television Festival.

ATX Television Festival is actually the reason they reunited. The festival hosted a Hey Dude reunion in 2014. Since cell phones and social media didn’t exist in the early 90s, the cast had lost touch over the years. But they reconnected when they all came to the festival for the 25th anniversary reunion of the Nickelodeon series!

Christine Taylor is a vegetarian.

On the opening night red carpet, we asked both of the actors our Texas This Or That questions. One of the questions was “Brisket or pulled pork?” Her answer was, “Vegetarian.” Both she and Stiller embraced the plant-based lifestyle over 10 years ago. Lucky for her, there are plenty of great vegetarian and vegan options here in Austin!

Christine Taylor was on Dallas.

When we asked if they prefer J.R. Ewing or Walker Texas Ranger, we learned something else about Taylor. She was on the series finale of Dallas in 1991! While she didn’t play a Ewing she did get to meet and work with Larry Hagman!

They disagree on the best James in the biz.

Now that Austin has two famous James’ we had to ask them to choose between James Marsden and James Van Der Beek? Taylor said that she’s been friends with Marsden for so long that she calls him Jimmy so Jimmy Marsden was her answer! Lascher wanted things to be fair so he picked Van Der Beek!

Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.

Last, but surely not least, we learned that Lascher loves both the Friday Night Lights series and the movie. He told us that he loves the series because it lasts longer. When we told him the show was filmed right here in Austin, he was shocked. “Oh, my God. How fun was that?” he exclaimed.

Having both of the classic 80s/ 90s stars in town was so much fun. We loved getting to chat with and learn more about them! You can catch new episodes of their podcast every Sunday on all podcast streaming services.

Stay tuned, we have a lot of ATX Television Festival coverage coming your way!
