I know what you did last summer

I expected the 2025 version of I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel to be a letdown. Most re-boots/ revivals are, am I right? Well, I’m pleased to say that this time, I was wrong. Not only is the film nostalgic in all the best ways, it’s also a sharp, snappy blood-soaked love letter to the original that reinvents the franchise with a modern edge.

Here’s why I Know What You Did Last Summer will slash its way to the top of the box-office charts!

The film makes it clear that it knows its roots and respects them. It’s packed with clever callbacks, iconic cameos and tons of Easter eggs that will have you chuckling and cheering.

The foggy coastal town (which is actually in Australia, NOT North Carolina), the ominous hook-wielding silhouette (with an updated eerier hook), and even that infamous line – “What are you waiting for?!” – are all there. There’s even a reference to that doomed vacation in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. But that’s not all! There are countless nods to the 1997 classic, plus some unexpected cameos that fans of the original will absolutely love.

The young stars of the film include Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Madelyn Cline. © 2024 CTMG, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Now let’s talk about the killer new cast. This young ensemble brings charisma, chemistry and a modern sensibility to the story, blending TikTok-era relevance with real emotional stakes. These aren’t your stereotypical slasher victims — they’re smart, self-aware and fun to root for (or scream at).

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) is the perfect blend of old-school horror nostalgia and new-school thrills. It’s safe to say that this revival will slash its way into the hearts of both Gen X and older millennials. I’m guessing the younger generations are going to be hooked as well. You see what I did there?

Word to the wise… be sure to stay put for the mid-credit scene. It’s one of the best parts of the movie!

One more fun fact, Austin native Austin Nichols plays a pivotal role in the film. We always love seeing one of our own up there on the screen! Want to know what other celebs live in Austin? Check out our massive list!
