Believe it or not, Alamo Drafthouse’s Anderson Lane location is celebrating its 50th year in Austin! In February 1974, a four-screen theater opened in North Central Austin as part of a new development called The Village. Over the decades, the Village Cinemas 4 morphed into an arthouse theater, and in 2001 it became the second-ever Alamo Drafthouse location.
To mark the anniversary, the Alamo Drafthouse is hosting over 100 iconic film screenings. Largely drawn from the Disney and 20th Century vaults, these films won’t play at any other Alamo Drafthouse in 2024 – and many of them rarely screen anywhere.
The highlights include movie parties and sing-alongs for films like: The Greatest Showman, The Princess Bride, Moulin Rouge and Office Space. We are most excited about the latter as Office Space was shot right here in Austin in 1998. Programming also honors University of Texas grad Wes Anderson.
