The newest Spy Kids movie is officially filming in Austin! When Spill the aTx first heard about the reboot we predicted they would be filming in Texas, especially with Austin’s own Robert Rodriguez as director.
Here’s the aTx…
Robert Rodriguez never passes on the opportunity to film in Austin when he can. In fact, he started Troublemaker Studios here in 1991. It’s where he filmed the first four Spy Kids movies along with many of his other well known movies.
The movie finally has a title so we guess we should stop calling it the Spy Kids reboot now. Spy Kids: Armageddon is the title and it’s said that this movie will focus on a new family of spies.
We also now know who has been cast in the new film! Jane The Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez and Shazam star Zachary Levi lead the cast. As far as the kids go, Yes Day’s Everly Carganilla and newcomer Connor Esterson have also been announced.
We’re sure with Robert Rodriguez at the helm there will be some great guest appearances or maybe even some original cast cameos. Danny Trejo is a must!
The movie has already started filming in the Austin area! Spill the aTx has confirmed that filming has happened in the Round Rock area and Krause Springs in Spicewood. Apparently, they have also been scouting houses in Westlake.
If you’re interested in being an extra in the movie, check out Beth Sepko Casting on Facebook. They are handling all of the casting. For details on how to apply, click here. Beth Sepko has handled almost all of Robert Rodriguez’s movies, including the first four Spy Kid movies!
We can’t wait to see where exactly they film. We’ll be sure to Spill the aTx as soon as we have more details. Until then, make sure to follow us on Instagram and check back often for any updates!
