While Joe Rogan had called Southern California home for over a decade, he called Cali quits and made a move to Texas in 2020. He wasn’t shy about his reasons for moving to Austin. The podcast star has said taxes, gun laws, and a smaller population are all factors for the move.

In 2021, he announced that he would be opening a comedy club at the former location of the One World Theatre on Bee Cave Road. The locale is just 10 minutes from Rogan’s $14.4 million dollar Westlake Hills mansion. Unfortunately, that deal fell through and we have been waiting for a new location to be announced.

Now, it seems we have an answer. According to this article, which references local property filings and an application to the city’s Historic Landmark Commission, the new comedy club will be located in the old Ritz Theater on Sixth Street. Apparently, new signage for the building is listed on the consent agenda of the commission’s February 28 meeting. The name used in documents is Comedy Mothership.

In March of 2021, Alamo Drafthouse announced it would be closing its flagship Ritz location permanently due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The theater is currently boarded.

Further details including a timeline for renovations or an opening date for the comedy club are unknown.
