Celebrity sightings on the final day of the 2012 Austin City Limits Music Festival were a bit slimmer for me (read about celeb sightings on the first two days of the fest here).
That’s because I spent the majority of my time on the last day of ACL in the AMD VIP area. Thank goodness for that hookup because it’s where the only band I was super-psyched to see played. I’ve been waiting to see the Avett Brothers since they cancelled their Old Settler’s performance last year (one of the wives was in labor).
After an almost two year wait, the boys did not disappoint. They played a great mix of new songs and the faves, including an encore performance of “I and Love and You.”
Obviously, I wasn’t the only one excited to see them. Check out the pic I took from the AMD side stage area.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith popped up on stage for a performance of Paul Newman vs. The Demons prompting a fan nearby to say, “I love Flea.” Ummmmm, the drummer isn’t Flea, silly.
Other rocking performances at ACL came from Gary Clark Jr.(also on the AMD stage), Crystal Castles, The Lumineers and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, of course. Lead singer Anthony Kiedis told the crowd, ”We came here specifically to mess with Texas.”
Elsewhere, ACL goers spotted Michael Fassbender and Natalie Portman, both in town to film Terrence Mallick’s flick.
Childish Gambino (aka Community‘s Donald Glover) played a packed pre-Chili Peppers set. Austin Nichols and Adrian Grenier were twit pic’d with fans and Ben Savage dined on ribs at Stubbs while Jennie Garth channeled her artistic side at the face painting booth.
And that’s another Austin Celebrity Limits for the books.
Now, we gear up for the Austin Film Fest and Austin Comic Con.
