Originally the Robert Rodriguez film Hypnotic was set to be filmed in Los Angeles but production was halted due to COVID-19. Production was later moved to Austin, Texas with filming set to begin on July 27, 2020. That date was delayed due to a legal battle. Eventually filming started in September of 2021 and only lasted about a month and a half.

Here’s what we know about the Austin shot film Hypnotic:

The film is described as a modern Hitchcockian thriller and is written by Austin’s own Robert Rodriguez and Max Borenstein.

Filming took place at Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios, as well as around the Austin area including locations in Mueller and at Republic Square in Downtown Austin.

Though no one we know personally spotted Jennifer Lopez in Austin, we are aware that she visited set at least twice (thanks to a crew member for that info).

The film also stars Hala Finley (We Can Be Heroes and Man With A Plan) and Alice Braga (Queen Of The South).

Here are some pictures followers sent us when Hypnotic filming was happening in Austin.

Unfortunately, we’ve yet to receive a release date from HBO but as soon as we do, we’ll be sure to spill the aTx! Stay tuned.
