About Caught Stealing

Caught Stealing is a darkly comedic crime-thriller directed by Darren Aronofsky. It follows a former star baseball player-turned-bartender, Hank Thompson (Austin Butler), who unwittingly gets pulled into a chaotic criminal underworld in 1998 NYC after agreeing to watch his neighbor’s cat. The film co-stars Regina King, Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Bad Bunny (credited as Benito A. Martínez Ocasio), Griffin Dunne and Carol Kane.

As I said in my TikTok and IG reels, this is not my favorite Aronofsky film. It’s entertaining enough but there was nothing that really drew me into the film – except the cat, that is. Tonic the cat is the true star of the film. Though I could enjoy his performance on streaming just as easily as on the big screen.
