If you’re into true crime podcasts, always the first to solve the mystery in Clue, or love a stylish Knives Out-style whodunit, then Murder on the Orient Express at ZACH Theatre should definitely be on your to-do list.
Here’s why you should see Murder On The Orient Express at ZACH Theatre.
Adapted from Agatha Christie’s classic novel, this production follows world-famous detective Hercule Poirot. As he boards a glamorous train in the 1930s, he quickly finds himself caught in the middle of a murder investigation. The storytelling is sharp, the pace is quick and the whole thing is packed with intrigue, drama and just enough humor to keep you leaning in.
Let’s talk about the set for a second. It’s impressive and, honestly, kind of magical. The design brings the luxury and drama of the 1930s to life. The video backdrops, lighting and how the train is choreographed all come together in a really cool way. It’s definitely one of the best set designs I’ve seen at ZACH.
I walked into this show completely fresh as I hadn’t seen the 2017 film adaptation (you can find that one here: IMDb). I never read the book either, so I had no idea who did it. That made the whole experience even more fun, especially trying to pick up on little character details or hidden clues throughout.

The cast is strong across the board, but for me, the standout was Olivia Dawson as Helen Hubbard. She brings so much energy to her role, I found myself watching her every time she stepped on stage. Without pulling away from the tension of the mystery, she kept the audience laughing.
Whether you’re going on a date night, group outing or just want an excuse to get out and escape into a good story, this is a great pick. You’ll be entertained, impressed and maybe even a little inspired to break out your detective hat afterward.
Catch Murder on the Orient Express now through March 1 at ZACH Theatre. Tickets and details at zachtheatre.org. Just don’t wait too long… the train won’t be at the station forever.
