Beauty and the Beast

The tale as old as time comes alive in new ways on stage at Bass Concert Hall. Beauty and the Beast serves fast and fun choreography, incredible special effects and nostalgia with a twist. Your whole family will take delight in this enchanting musical.

Why Beauty and the Beast is this season’s can’t miss show!

You can’t help but smile as the familiar score starts playing. If you are like us, you probably watched Beauty and the Beast a million times as a kid. As soon as Belle steps on stage, you are transported into that poor provincial town. The bright costumes, exuberant characters and beautiful sets are a feast for your senses.

The stage musical includes songs you know and love, and a few new ones. Texas State alumni, Kyra Belle Johnson, embodies Belle perfectly. Her voice is youthful yet powerful at the same time. Another Bobcat, Cameron Monroe Thomas, is stunning as Babette. At the talkback after the show (happening again on Wednesday, December 10), we learned that Kevin Ligon, who plays Maurice, also has Texas roots!

Parental Warning!

If you bring young kids, be aware that the wolf scenes can be a little intense, similar to the movie. The Beast’s temper is also a bit scary at times. My 11-year-old, and the elderly lady next to me, both gasped in unison throughout the show. Overall, the production will amaze your children though. In true Disney form, the use of technology creates magic in front of your eyes. It seamlessly carries through the dance sequences as well. “Be Our Guest” will have you on the edge of your seat with the biggest childlike grin on your face.

The energy throughout the entire show is enticing. From the elaborate sets, to the heartfelt musical numbers, kids and adults alike will love this experience. My daughter is already begging to go see it again!
