Willie Nelson is one of those Austin artists that just seems to get better with age. His new album “Ride Me Back Home” is better than ever!

The title track is classic Willie and inspired by the 75 rescue horses he has on his ranch, where we got a chance to preview his album along with a small audience at the chapel on his ranch in Spicewood.

The rest of the songs we heard have a little something for everyone.  They were touching and funny and rooted in everything from country classics to Billy Joel with some jazzy elements thrown in.

In between songs, Willie reminisced with his daughter Paula and long time producer Buddy Cannon about things like riding a calf, rollerskating and a flying bass player in Vegas.

Our personal favorite song on the new album is “7 Year Itch” followed closely by “Hard to be Humble,” which Willie performs with his sons Lukas and Micah.

We were lucky enough to see the three play together at Luck Reunion last month.

“Ride Me Back Home” will be released in June with a specific date forthcoming.

Paula Nelson can be heard on Sirius FM’s Willie’s Roadhouse with Paula Nelson on Monday through Thursday starting at 6 pm.
