A vintage video store pop-up is now open in Austin. If you ever rented a movie on a Friday night, this one’s for you. From the second you walk in to Back 2 The Video Store, you’re hit with the best kind of nostalgia. Think lava lamps, pogs, neon lights and shelves full of VHS tapes. It’s like stepping straight into your childhood… but this time, with cocktails.

How The Pop-Up Works

You get a membership card when you walk in (yes, just like the old school kind) and you use it to pick your movie and corresponding drink. Each one is inspired by a different 80s, 90s or early 2000s movie, and every movie case incudes the cocktail ingredients so you know exactly what you’re getting. You take your pick up to the counter and the “videotender” mixes it up for you.

The vibe is totally rad. There’s era appropriate music, photo ops and enough Y2K details to make you feel like you time-traveled. There’s even an adult’s only room in back! You’ll find yourself saying “Oh my God, I remember this!” all night long.

What To Drink

The drinks are playful and well-made, although they can be a bit on the sweet side. There are great mocktails too if you’re skipping the booze.

• Karate Kid – Vodka, Lime and Apple Juice, Sour Apple Syrup and Fresh Popcorn
• The Big Lebowski – Vodka, Vanilla Extract, Coffee Liqueur and Shaved Nutmeg
• Men In Black – Rum, Pineapple, Lime and Coconut Juice, Use and Lychees
• Mean Girls – Vodka, Lemon Juice, Watermelon Syrup and Cotton Candy
• Titanic – Agave Spirit, Rose Syrup, Lime and Grapefruit Juice, Elderflower Syrup and Creme de Violette
• Toy Story – Vodka, Cucumber Lime Infusion, Lemon Juice, Watermelon Syrup, Fresh Mint, Soda Water and a Pop Rocks Rim
• Jaws – Agave Spirit, Lime Juice, Blue Curqacao, Agave Syrup, Soda Water, Grenadine and Shark Candy
• Happy Gilmore – Vodka, Sweet Tea, Lemon Juice and Simple Syrup

There’s also a group drink called the Indiana Jones and two shots themed as Space Jam and Halo.

What You’ll Pay

Tickets are $22 and include one cocktail or mocktail plus a 90-minute reservation. Totally worth it just for the experience alone. Oh, and no late fees.
