The Outsiders Is Outstanding And You Must See It In Austin

The Outsiders is the best Broadway show that I’ve seen in a very long time. The touring production is currently in Austin and this is one show you do not want to miss!

The Outsiders Is Outstanding!

I love everything about this show, but let’s start with the cast. In one word, it’s phenomenal. Stand outs include Nolan White as Ponyboy and Tyler Jordan Wesley as Dallas. Their singing, acting and stage presence will blow you away! The camaraderie of the cast is intense. Although this story is filled with angst and trauma, the tenderness and love of the male friendships will inspire you.

Clearly if you know the story, it’s not necessarily a happy one. But there are really heartwarming and uplifting takeaways from this S.E. Hinton penned tale.

Though I was aware of the show’s accolades (and the fact that it’s produced by Angelina Jolie), I went into it rather blind. I was not aware of the music nor how the story translates from book and screen to the stage. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. The music is catchy and moving and even fun at some points. Somehow I missed the fact that the music is composed by Texas’s own Jamestown Revival. As a fan of folk music and show tunes, it’s not shocking that I love all of the music.

I also love the stage production. While it takes place in the 1960’s, the show feels very modern and now. There were actually many elements that remind me of the Stranger Things: The First Shadow, currently on Broadway. From the choreography of the fights and the on stage rain to the lighting, slow motion and well timed pauses, the show is truly perfection.
