With all the chatter going on related to the Alex Cooper / Alix Earle drama, it got us thinking. While this may be the hottest Gen Z feud, what were the biggest Gen X and Millennial feuds? We asked our followers to weigh in and we narrowed all the mentions down to these most memorable female feuds.
The Biggest Millennial and Gen X Pop Celebrity Feuds
Mariah Carey and Madonna
In the 1990s, Mariah kept her distance from Madonna, though the origins of their frosty relationship were mostly competitive rather than direct public attacks. A feud with these two divas is no surprise though, as they have both been involved in other high profile feuds as well. It’s been rumored that Madonna has had issues with Cher, Gwyneth Paltrow and Lady Gaga. Meanwhile, Mariah has been involved with Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez and, of course, Eminem.
Brandy vs. Monica
Despite their massive duet “The Boy is Mine,” these two had a real, intense rivalry that included a physical altercation. Tensions became so high that they recorded separately. Not surprisingly, much of their feud was fueled by media narratives, label competition and fan speculation rather than a long-running personal war.
Shannen Doherty vs. Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling
This on-going feud became one of Hollywood’s most talked-about behind-the-scenes feuds of the 90s. Like many cast conflicts, it was likely more complicated than a simple “good vs. bad” story. Shannen developed a reputation at the time for being outspoken, intense and sometimes difficult to work with. She has that some stories were exaggerated and that she was unfairly villainized.

Jennie Garth has openly acknowledged that she and Shannen clashed. In interviews, Jennie said they were both strong personalities and competed for space in a high-pressure environment. She once admitted they even nearly got into a physical fight.
Tori, meanwhile, reportedly complained to her father about tensions and Shannen’s behavior on set. Many people connect that to Shannen eventually leaving the show in 1994. Tori has since said she feels guilty about how events unfolded and regrets parts of her involvement.
Shannen Doherty vs. Alyssa Milano
Most of what is publicly known comes from later interviews, memoirs, podcasts and cast recollections rather than a single definitive account. Some say Alyssa and Shannen simply did not get along personally. Others suggested the network and producers struggled to manage conflict. Shannen and co-star Holly Marie Combs later alleged Alyssa had influenced production decisions and contributed to Shannen’s exit. Alyssa says those claims were inaccurate and that she did not have the power people suggested.
Britney Spears vs. Christina Aguilera
The “feud” between Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera was one of the biggest pop rivalries of the late 1990s and 2000s. Much of this one was definitely driven by media comparison and fan culture rather than a personal war. In interviews during the early 2000s, they did both make subtle digs or dismissive comments about each other though.Clearly, they had parallel careers as both were on The Mickey Mouse Club, both launched solo pop careers around the same time and both were blonde teen-pop stars marketed to overlapping audiences. This was peak tabloid-era celebrity culture, where two successful women were often treated as if only one could win.
Pink vs. Christina Aguilera
In 2001, Pink and Christina teamed with Mýa and Lil’ Kim for the hit Lady Marmalade from the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack. According to Pink, tension began during business discussions with producer Linda Perry and management over who would sing which parts. Pink said she felt Christina’s team pushed for more prominent vocal moments, and an argument reportedly broke out. As with the Britney/ Christina conflict, this all went down amidst a divisive atmosphere of the pop industry at the time, where women were constantly pitted against one another.
Hilary Duff vs. Lindsay Lohan
This was a real feud in the sense that there was tension during their teen years, largely around Aaron Carter and celebrity competition. But it was mostly a short-lived, tabloid-amplified early-2000s rivalry rather than a serious lifelong feud. Aaron dated Hilary, then dated Lindsay, then went back to Hilary. He later admitted he handled the situation badly.
There were periods where both women each made comments interpreted as digs. Hilary at times criticized Lindsay’s behavior or questioned trust issues. Lindsay reportedly made sarcastic comments in return. Paparazzi culture amplified every small remark into “war.”
Demi Lovato vs. Selena Gomez
Demi and Selena were close childhood friends who grew apart, experienced some real tension, and had their friendship dissected publicly. It was more a friendship breakup than a celebrity feud. But, because their friendship was so visible, any distance between them became headline news.
Paris Hilton Vs. Nicole Richie
No fully confirmed single cause of this duo’s rift was ever publicly established. Both women were vague for years, which made rumors explode. It appears to have been a mix of friendship strain, fame, jealousy and personal conflict. The best-known story that sparked headlines was that Nicole hosted a party and showed one of Paris’s private tapes instead of Paris’s planned Saturday Night Live appearance. This rumor circulated widely at the time, but details were never verified. Paris famously said in 2005: “It’s no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends.” She did not give detailed reasons publicly, which only intensified curiosity.

Katy Perry vs. Taylor Swift
Katy and Taylor were initially friendly in the late 2000s and early 2010s. They appeared together publicly and exchanged supportive comments. The relationship reportedly soured around 2013–2014 with an issue involving backup dancers who had worked with Katy and then joined Taylor’s The Red Tour. Several dancers later left Taylor’s tour to return to Katy’s camp.
In 2014 Taylor released Bad Blood, widely interpreted as being about Katy. That turned a behind-the-scenes dispute into a global pop-culture storyline. Katy then posted a famous tweet warning people to “watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing,” which many took as a response.
Kim Cattrall vs. Sarah Jessica Parker
Signs suggest the tension between SJP and Kim Cattrall began during the original run of Sex and the City (1998–2004), though it was largely kept private at the time. During the show’s run, rumors circulated about salary differences, status and cast dynamics. SJP didn’t only star as Carrie Bradshaw, she also became an executive producer, which reportedly shifted power and compensation.
The tension became much more public after the show ended. Rumors continued during and after the first two Sex and the City films. A proposed third movie collapsed, and reports blamed disputes involving Kim’s participation. Headlines continued through the years with Kim publicly saying she and Sarah Jessica were never really friends and criticized the narrative that they were close.
But if we really want to get into female feuds of the 90s, perhaps we should mention Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. That was was all out wild. If you aren’t familiar, we suggest watching the film I, Tonya starring Margot Robbie.
