When the Chicago Cubs took on the White Sox in the final game of the Crosstown Classic at Wrigley Field on August 16, 2023, Spill the ATX was there! This wasn’t our first visit to the home of the Cubbies but it was certainly the most exciting. A trip to Wrigleyville is always a good time and while we were there, we got to thinking, “What are the best movies that have been filmed at Wrigley Field?” So here we go…

A League of Their Own

This 1992 film stars Geena Davis, Rosie O’Donnell, Madonna and more as members of the Rockford Peaches. The Peaches were one of the women’s professional baseball teams who played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Who hasn’t dreamed of skipping out on a day of high school to go to a baseball game? That’s exactly what Ferris, Cameron and Sloane do in this 1986 John Hughes classic. On this particular visit, we even found a Save Ferris pop-up bar right around the corner from the field. Check it out here.

Rookie of the Year

Released in 1993, Rookie of the Year stars Thomas Ian Nichols as a boy who mysteriously gains an incredibly powerful pitching arm and becomes a major league pitcher for the Chicago Cubs.

The Break-Up

Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughan star in this 2006 film documenting a couple’s difficult break up. The couple first meet at a Cubs game.

About Last Night

About Last Night is an 80’s era film that stars various members of the “Brat Pack,” including Rob Lowe and Demi Moore. In an early scene, the two characters watch a Cubs game from a rooftop on North Sheffield Avenue.

The Last Summer

The newest flick on the list, The Last Summer was released in 2019. The Netflix film tells the tale of a group of teenagers enjoying their final summer before heading to college. Halston Sage plays a Northwestern University freshman who meets a Cubs rookie played by Tyler Posey. The couple later have a night-time picnic date at an empty Wrigley and even get to poke their heads through the iconic center-field scoreboard.
