There are a slew of new Christmas movies being released this year (and they aren’t all on Hallmark!). We’ve already watched a handful and there are four we highly recommend.
Here are four new Christmas movies you need to watch in 2023!
A Merry Scottish Christmas
While this one IS a Hallmark movie, we felt more like we were watching a Party of 5 reunion. The flick reunites two of our favorite Salingers: Scott Wolf, who played Bailey, and the Hallmark movie queen herself Lacey Chabert, who played youngest sister Claudia on the 90’s TV series. The duo even grab drinks at a bar in the movie called Salinger’s. There’s also an uncredited cameo by Will Kemp, Chabert’s co-star in Dancing Detective and Christmas Waltz.
Plot: Follows estranged siblings Lindsay and Brad as they travel to Scotland at Christmas to reunite with their mother Jo.
Cast: Lacey Chabert, Scott Wolf, James Robinson, Janet Grene, Kellie Blaise
Where to watch: Hallmark Channel

Dashing Through The Snow
This Disney flick is a fun one for both children and adults. Lil Rel is amusing as Santa and it’s giving us a new take on a Christmas story. I predict we’ll be seeing a lot more of Madison Skye Validum, who plays the daughter, as she stars in two movies on this list. Plus, you know how Disney loves their child stars!
Plot: Luda plays a divorced social worker for the Atlanta police department who despises Christmas due to a painful childhood memory. When sent on a call while spending Christmas Eve with his daughter, he inadvertently evokes the wrath of a local politician but meets a man who helps him understand the joy and magic of Christmas.
Cast: Ludacris, Lil Rel, Madison Skye Validum, Teyonah Parris, Ravi Patel, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Oscar Nuñez
Where to watch: Disney+
Best. Christmas. Ever.
With a star studded cast, this was sure to be a streaming hit. Though it’s a bit cheesy and far fetched (aren’t all holiday flicks?), it’s a fun watch. Bonus points for having Brandy sing at the end!
Plot: Every Christmas, without fail, Jackie sends a boastful holiday newsletter that makes her old college friend Charlotte feel like a lump of coal. When a twist of fate lands Charlotte, her husband Rob, and their family on Jackie and her husband Valentino’s snowy doorstep just days before Christmas, Charlotte seizes the opportunity to prove that her old friend’s “perfect” life can’t possibly be that perfect. But in her overzealous attempt to expose Jackie, Charlotte nearly ruins Christmas for both families and must team up with her old friend to reassemble the pieces.
Cast: Brandy Norwood, Heather Graham, Jason Biggs, Matt Cedeño, Wyatt Hunt, Madison Skye Validum, Abby Villasmil
Where to watch: Netflix
Never Been Chris’d
Another Hallmark movie, this one stars two best friends who head home for the holidays where they run into the guy they both had a crush on in high school. This is definitely the most believable film on the list. With an extremely likable cast and a unique storyline, we’re adding this one to our list of favorite Hallmark Christmas movies.
Plot: Best friends, Naomi and Liz, return home for the holidays and simultaneously enter a love triangle when they both reconnect with their high school crush, Chris Silver.
Cast: Janel Parrish, Pascal Lamothe-Kipnes, Tyler Hynes
Where to watch: Hallmark Channel
