Billy Bob Thornton

Academy Award-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton has never hidden the fact that music has always been his first love. While millions know him from iconic performances in Sling Blade, Bad Santa, Goliath, and more recently Landman, Thornton has spent nearly two decades building a respected career with his rock band, The Boxmasters.

Now, Austin fans will get another chance to experience that passion live as Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters bring their 2026 Morro Rock Tour to 3TEN ACL Live on Wednesday, July 15. The performance marks the band’s return to the Live Music Capital of the World as they continue a nationwide tour supporting their latest studio album, In The Bay.

More Than a Celebrity Side Project

For anyone expecting a Hollywood vanity band, think again.

Formed in 2007 by Billy Bob Thornton and Grammy-winning engineer and musician J.D. Andrew, The Boxmasters have built a loyal following by crafting original music rooted in the sounds of the 1960s. Their style blends classic rock, British Invasion melodies, country rock, Americana, and power pop into a sound that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly original.

The group has released more than 20 studio albums, proving they are one of the most prolific touring and recording bands on today’s roots rock scene. Oh, and PS, we first saw the band play at Stubbs in 2008!
