Andy Roddick and Brooklyn Decker still consider themselves Austinites. One reason for that is the Andy Roddick Foundation which provides opportunities to elementary students in Austin’s underserved communities and across Central Texas.
This year, the foundation’s gala took place at ACL Live Moody Theater on November 16. In addition to Roddick and Decker, familiar faces attending the event included Bobby Bones, Odette Annable and Dave Annable, each of which took our Texas This or That quiz on the red carpet.
Here’s what went down at the actual gala.
Following opening remarks from Roddick and ARF CEO Jaime Garcia, Bobby Bones kicks off the entertainment portion of the evening. Following his intro, he and comedy partner Eddie Garcia launch into a song called, “I Saw My Grandmother Naked.” As the crowd roars with laughter, they continue to entertain with more tunes like “Hobby Lobby Bobby” and “Fannypack.”
Country singer Matt Stell takes the stage next, thanking the audience for raising a “boatload of money.” His performance begins with a love song full of the usual country heartbreak before bringing it up a notch and giving the audience something to dance to. Musician Riley Green follows.
Though the event took place on a Wednesday night, the theater was packed with dinner attendees on the floor as well as concert ticket holders in the upper levels. Austinites really showed up to support in need youth, and the learning gaps for children will be narrowed because of that!
