In one word, this movie is intense! Matthew McConaughey (and everything else, for that matter) will leave you gasping for air while watching The Lost Bus. If you’re like me, you might even find yourself on the verge of an anxiety attack. Now that I say all this, I’m making it sound like this movie isn’t worth a watch – and that couldn’t be further from the truth. You should definitely see this film!
Spilling the Tea on The Lost Bus With Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera
The Lost Bus dramatizes real events from the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, California – one of the deadliest in California’s history. When a school bus driver (played by McConaughey) must guide a bus full of children and their teacher (America Ferrera) through a wildfire, you will find yourself holding your breath as they’re met with one obstacle after another.
It’s very well made with almost too realistic effects and exceptional acting. Both McConaughey and Ferrera are excellent. I was especially impressed by their emotional and non-verbal acting. It was their facial expressions in the most tense scenes that impacted me most. Ashlie Atkinson also does a great job as Ruby, the bus depot dispatcher.
It’s not all drama and high intensity. Another highlight of the film is that the McConaugheys made it a family affair. Matthew’s son Levi makes his acting debut in the flick while real life mom Kay stars as his mom on screen as well. Learn more about how Levi landed the role here.

The Lost Bus will screen in select theaters starting on September 19 and stream on Apple TV+ starting on October 3.
