The Devil Wears Prada musical is on track to open in London’s West End. With plans to debut in the fall of 2024, the show has finally found their Miranda Priestly. Vanessa Williams is taking on the iconic role, made famous by Meryl Streep.
The Devil Wears Prada: A New Musical first opened in Chicago in 2022 and we were there! Reportedly, the English musical has a completely new cast and creative team. That’s probably a good idea because the Chicago run was definitely lacking some pizzazz.
Review of The Devil Wears Prada Musical
Here’s our initial review of the show, posted on Instagram immediately following my attendance.
It needs work. I found that it didn’t flow well and the story was a bit choppy. Though EGOT winner Elton John created the score, the songs were not as catchy as I expected. Also, I think they are in need of a big name to play either Andy or Miranda to carry the show. Neither actress was able to do this in Chicago. But here are a few highlights: I like the set design, I enjoyed Nigel (aka the Stanley Tucci role) who has one of the best songs in the production called “Dress Your Way Up.” I loved the gal who played Emily (Megan Masako Haley) as well as how that role transitions to the stage. She has the best songs overall, the best lines and is definitely the best written character. That’s all.

Hopefully, they have ironed out all the issues and the show will be a hit once it hits London town! It’s set to debut at Dominion Theatre.
The cast of the Chicago production included Beth Leavel as Miranda, Taylor Iman Jones as Andy, Megan Masako Haley as Emily and Javier Muñoz as Nigel.
At time of press, no other casting announcements for the new production have been made.
