If you’re a bargain hunter like me, you are constantly on the lookout for a deal. While sales racks can be fun, finding a deal at a thrift store really gives me a rush. There are a number of thrift stores in and around Austin and knowing which ones are worth a trip can be confusing. That’s why I put together this list of the best thrift and consignment stores in the Austin area.
10 Best Consignment and Thrift Stores in ATX
Style Encore
If you’re looking for designer deals, don’t skip Style Encore. They offer high end handbags, shoes, jewelry as well as dedicated sections for brands like Free People, Anthropologie, Lululemon, and more! Follow them on Instagram for new item alerts and special offers.
Goodwill
Of course Goodwill is going to be on the list. With a plethora of locations around town, I do have some favorites. The Anderson Lane store is located a stone’s throw from Style Encore and I always stop in during a trip to that area. I also enjoy the locale on North Lamar and the boutique on Bee Caves Road. The latter is very hit or miss as it’s very small (and has VERY limited parking) but it can be a good spot to snag designer clothing and bags. If you’re really looking for a deep discount deal, you can hit the bins at the Goodwill Outlets. There are two locations in Austin and they can both be quite packed, so pack your patience and a pair of gloves as you will be sifting through lots of junk. Treasure can be found though and since you pay by the pound, you can really score a deal.
Thrift Town
Located in South Austin, Thrift Town carries a little bit of everything, except for furniture. Pro tip: check their website before you go so you know what kind of items are discounted that day. We also recommend joining their VIP program. You’ll get $5 off $15 for every $100 you spend, plus other great discounts.
Savers Value Village
Speaking of discounts, Savers is a great place for that. Save 20% on your purchase when you drop off clothing and household items at your visit. Plus, when you donate items to their nonprofit partner at the store, they pay them for your stuff, helping fund important programs in the community. You can also sign up for special text-only offers and their Super Savers Club where you can rack up points for 20% off your purchase up to $100.
Hill Country Senior Citizens Thrift Shop
Located in Dripping Springs, the Hill Country Seniors Shop is packed with deals. The nonprofit Hill Country Senior Center receives a small portion of their budget through CAPCOG and through the Hays County Commissioner’s Court. Butm the primary source of their funds comes from this thrift shop. It’s a mix of items, some of which are completely random, which I love. Think about the things that you may have pulled out of your grandmother’s attic and that’s what you’ll find at this store. I’ve walked out with old holiday decorations, cassette tapes, vintage toys and more.
Austin Pets Alive! Thrift Stores
If you love helping animals while shopping, this is the place for you. All proceeds from the store help fund the innovative life-saving programs at Austin Pets Alive! This thrift store is cozy, cute, and always plays great music.
Home Consignment Center
There are two locations in Austin: one in Bee Cave and one near the Domain. I frequent the Bee Cave location more often strictly based on locale. Though I did recently purchase a folding gate leg table. Their showroom is packed with a variety of new and used sectionals, sofas, tables and more. They even have jewelry and designer handbags. If you’re looking to consign your own stuff, they accept all kinds of furniture, from expensive heirlooms to trendy home goods.
Salvation Army
Along with everything else, Salvation Army is a great place to shop for furniture – especially on half off days (Friday)! I usually shop at the South Congress location as well as the one on Research Boulevard. Wednesdays are Customer Appreciation Days with 50% off clothing, shoes, purses, accessories and linens. It’s a great deal but know that the store will be crowded and there will be quite the line to check out.
Room Service Vintage
Born in 1981 off the North Loop, this vintage furniture store is the place to go if you’re looking to do some unique decorating. Their pieces do sell fast though so we recommend staying up to date on their showroom items via their social media page.
Hope Family Thrift Store
Nothing beats a good dig through the the racks and racks of clothing, but Hope Family Thrift Store gets special attention for its wide variety of furniture. Plus this store is doing their part to aid central Texas disaster survivors.
If you’re looking for more clothing consignment options, there are a few other spots many love. They aren’t my personal faves, but they do offer a variety of brands and options. Each of these spots have multiple locations so check their websites for specifics: Uptown Cheapskate, Buffalo Exchange and 2nd Street.
