SXSW is days away and the pop up announcements are swarming in (you see what we did there?)! Swarm Mini Mart is one pop up activation you do not want to miss!
Here’s the tea on everything we know about Donald Glover’s new series Swarm
Donald Glover is no stranger to SXSW he’s been to Austin for the festival plenty of times, especially for his FX series Atlanta. This year he’s back for what they’re considering Atlanta‘s sister show Swarm.
Glover had the idea to tell the story about a woman who is obsessed with a pop star. The pop star she’s obsessed with seems heavily based on Beyoncé as you can see in the the trailer which shows multiple odes to the Houston superstar. There’s bee related terminology and choreography and even a mention that the artist’s sister seems like a more spiritual singer. And last, but definitely not least, the fandom calls themselves the Beyhive. The ties continue as the series co-creator and writer Janine Nabers is actually a Houston native. The theory is that she was influenced by Houston artists like Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion and Lizzo. It even looks like there’s an H-Town shirt in the trailer!

The series will release all seven episodes together on March 17 on Amazon Prime, but if you’re headed to SXSW you can catch a special preview screening on March 10.
In addition to the SXSW premiere, there will also be a Swarm pop up. While we don’t have a lot of details about the pop up yet we can tell you that if it’s anything like past Amazon Prime Video pop ups, you’re not going to want to miss it.
Here’s what we know so far about the Swarm Pop-Up
The pop up will be part of Amazon Prime Video’s Prime, Texas pop up, which includes various aspects from multiple Amazon Prime original series’ including:
- The Boys
- Daisy Jones & the Six
- Carnival Row
- The Summer I Turned Pretty
- Harlem
- The Power
- Swarm
The Prime, Texas pop up is described as a portal to the Lone Star State of your dreams and it will be running from March 10 to 12 at Hotel San José on South Congress. The Swarm Mini Mart pop up will be from March 10 – 11. It will be located next door at the Austin Motel. There will be snacks, lotto prizes and, of course, plenty of creative photo ops!
