Ryan Gosling received the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Director Greta Gerwig, and Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Big Short co-star Steve Carell were on hand to pay tribute.
While speaking about his childhood, Gosling reminisced about dancing in hammer pants, singing at weddings and “being the least talented kid in a group of Disney Channel prodigies on the Mickey Mouse Club.” His words, not ours.
About those childhood gigs, the Oscar nominee said, “By playing other people, I was learning who I was in the process.”
As an awarded successful actor, Gosling still feels lucky to get to do what he does. After listing a myriad of roles he’s thankful to have played, concluding with a 70-year-old crotchless doll, he spoke about his personal life, something he very rarely does. “Most importantly, I got to meet the girl of my dreams, Eva Mendes, and have two dream children.”
I dreamed of one day making movies and now movies have made my life a dream.

Perhaps we’ll see Gosling back on stage at the SAG Awards and the upcoming Oscars, where perhaps he’ll be performing his viral Barbie hit, “I’m Just Ken.”
