There are so many amazing movies that were made in Austin, Texas! In the past we have featured Varsity Blues, Dazed and Confused and more. Now, it’s time to finally highlight Office Space.
The Mike Judge flick was filmed in Austin in 1998 and it was actually a box office flop! Making only $12.2 million with a $10 million budget, the movie owes its cult level status to the success it achieved via video.
In 2019, cast members reunited here in Austin for special screening ahead of SXSW. AFS hosted a 20th anniversary screening of the film at the Paramount. Cast members who attended included Ron Livingston, David Herman, and Gary Cole. The following night, the trio accepted the Star of Texas Award honoring the film at the Texas Film Awards.
Here are all of the Office Space filming locations in Austin.
- The opening shot where Peter is stuck is traffic was shot on Braker Lane between Domain Drive and Burnet Road.
- The office building that stood in as Initech is located at 4120 Freidrich Lane.
- Two apartment complexes were used for Peter and Lawrences homesteads: Trails of Walnut Creek Apartments (11511 Metric Boulevard) and Great Hills Apartments (10610 Morado Circle).
- Tom’s House is located in Pflugerville at 1603 Glen Rose Chase.
- Two locations were used for Chotchkie’s as well. A Chase bank was used for the exteriors (located at 9739 Great Hills Trail). Interiors were filmed at Baker Street Pub & Grill (3003 S. Lamar Boulevard), though it was Alligator Grill at the time.
According to sources, the grassy area where they destroy the printer was located where The Domain now stands. However, I have also heard reports that it took place near the “Initech Building.”
