Buddy Garrity, AKA Brad Leland, is making it known he is not a fan of Varsity Blues. The actor, best known for his role on Friday Night Lights, recently took our Texas This or That quiz and when it came to comparing FNL and Varsity Blues, he had a bold statement to make.
Varsity Blues vs. Friday Night Lights
When asked Varsity Blues or Friday Night Lights, Leland told Spill the ATX, in no uncertain terms, that he does NOT like the James Van Der Beek/ Jon Voigt starring film.
“I can not stand Varsity Blues,” he said. “Because it does not depict anything.”
He went on to explain that it’s supposed to be a spoof but it’s not. “People in the country think, oh, that’s what Texas High School football is. All the boys are drunks and all the girls are little whatever and all the coaches are aholes,” Leland explained.
In regards to the Friday Night Lights TV series, he says that even though they have been wrapped for 15 years, people all over the world continue to watch. “And the show is not about Texas high school football,” he states. “It’s about everybody, growing up in community and being a part of a team. And having a girlfriend and a boyfriend and a teacher and a coach and a problem and a love. That’s so universal.”
