The CW’s Walker, Texas Ranger reboot starring Supernatural actor Jared Padalecki received a teaser poster this week and a premiere date. The network which has been severely impacted by COVID-19 has announced its new plans for the upcoming television season. Due to the halt in both production and post production the CW’s fall schedule will be packed with programming completed before the coronavirus shutdown.
Walker will not premiere until January 2021.
In the new show, Padalecki plays Cordell Walker, a widower and father of two who returns to Austin, Texas after two years of undercover work. Once home, he tries to reconnect with his son (Kale Culley), daughter (Violet Brinson), his brother (Keegan Allen), mother (Molly Hagen) and father (Mitch Pileggi). Walker also has to come to terms with his new work situation, as his captain (Coby Bell) is a former colleague. He is also partnered with one of the first women Texas Rangers, played by The 100 star Lindsey Morgan.
Padalecki shared the poster for the new series, which is simply titled Walker. In his tweet he gave a nod to Chuck Norris’ “action jeans” by saying he was breaking in his “ninja jeans”. Of course, Norris was the original Walker, Texas Ranger, playing the character on CBS from 1993 to 2001 and in the 2005 movie, Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire.

Texas Forever
Being from Texas might not be a requirement for playing Walker but it sure helps. Norris isn’t from Texas (we love him regardless) but three of the new cast members sure are. Most of us know that Padalecki is an honorary Austinite but you might be surprised to know that Lindsey Morgan is from Houston. In addition Kale Culley, who will play Padalecki’s son, is from Dallas. That’s a whole lot of Texas. We approve!
The original series was filmed in Dallas, so we assume the reboot will be or was filmed somewhere in Texas. Since the storyline is centered around Walker returning home to Austin, we’re thinking that’s where it’ll be but nothing is confirmed. So stay tuned for more details.
We can’t wait to see Padalecki take on this iconic role (we’re a little nervous too). We believe in him though especially since he seems so passionate about the role that he’s also to serve as an executive producer on the series.
Walker airs January 2021, on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
Until then catch both Texas natives and future Texas Rangers, Jared Padalecki and Lindsey Morgan on The CW. Where Jared is wrapping up fifteen seasons of Supernatural. While Lindsey is finishing up seven seasons of The 100.
