Films aren’t the only thing taking over the scene at SXSW 2019. There are some pretty exciting TV premieres and panels happening as well. Not to mention some kick ass television related activations.
These are all of the TV events happening at SXSW 2019.
BuzzFeed X The CW
The So Extra…Terrestrial party will celebrate the CW series Roswell, New Mexico. Happening at the Mohawk on March 9th from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., they promise to have you blasting off with drinks and bites to fuel you and stellar music to keep you lifted throughout the night. Showtime House
Showtime will celebrate its upcoming music documentaries Shangri-La and Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics And Men as well as series Black Monday, The Chi and Shameless from Monday, March 11, through Wednesday, March 13. Combining culture, art, food and music, the Showtime House is located at Clive Bar on Rainey Street. Each day, Showtime will be giving out 100 gift cards to the Showtime service for the first 100 guests entering the venue. In addition, starting at 2 p.m. each day, outside of The SHOWTIME House on the corner of Rainey St. and Davis St., Showtime will be handing out daily giveaways of merchandise while supplies last. HBO Game of Thrones
In partnership with the American Red Cross, HBO will kick off Bleed For The Throne – the largest blood donation promotional effort by an entertainment company in American Red Cross history – at SXSW with an immersive activation from March 7 through 9. After donating blood, guests will walk in the steps of the characters who bled and relive their sacrifices as part of the experience. Those who earn an audience before the Iron Throne will be recognized and rewarded for their bravery.
As expected, this event filled up very quickly and no lots are currently available to take part nor attend.
The Highwaymen House
Technically, this is a movie but since it’s on Netflix, we’re including it. In the dark corners of a speakeasy, just about anybody could be on the wrong side of the law. Transport yourself to 1934, and enter Netflix’s The Highwaymen House at Banger’s Basement! Each night of programming will offer immersive experiences and surprise musical guests that you will not want to miss. Night one, March 9, features the Jessica Pratt. Comedy Central Showcases
Comedy Central will return to Austin for the 2019 SXSW Festival to present a series of official SXSW events.
- The Daily Show News Team Live Stand-Up Show at Esther’s Follies on Friday, March 8, at 8 p.m.
- Trevor Noah and The Daily Show News Team Panel Hard with Jake Tapper Featured Session on Saturday, March 9, at 12:30 p.m.
- The Daily Show with Trevor Noah Presents: The Donald J. Trump Presidential Twitter Library at the Driskill Hotel from Saturday, March 9, through Monday, March 11.
- Broad City Finale screening and Q&A with Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer at the Zach Theatre on Sunday, March 10, at 2 p.m.
It appears, however, that the following event will be open to the public. Free Beer, Food and Fun Fan Activities at Comedy Central’s Backyard Bash at Pelons Tex Mex & Bar from 12 to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 15, and Saturday, March 16.
Good Omens at SXSW: Garden of Earthly Delights
Amazon Prime Video will bring Armageddon to Austin, celebrating the highly anticipated premiere of novel-turned-series Good Omens beginning Friday, March 8, and running through Monday, March 11, at the Driskill. Activities will include appearances and conversations with author and executive producer, Neil Gaiman, director and executive producer Douglas Mackinnon, as well as series stars Michael Sheen, David Tennant and Jon Hamm. In addition, a hidden oasis from the impending End of Days, the “Good Omens Garden of Earthly Delights,” will beckon fans and festival-goers to escape and celebrate all that this world has to offer as the apocalypse looms near, coming May 31. What We Do In The Shadows Vampire Library
In celebration of the new original comedy series What We Do in the Shadows, FX Networks invites fans to engage in vampire lore in preparation for the series premiere on Wednesday, March 27.
Inspired by free library boxes that have popped up around the country, FX has designed a number of “vampire themed” structures filled with books in the genre, as well as other titles that reflect elements of the new original series. From March 9 through March 12, dusk until midnight, fans can visit the vampire libraries to select a free book of their choosing. They will also be given specialized bookmarks that promote the opportunity to enter a sweepstakes for the chance to win cash prizes. Those locations are: El Naranjo (85 Rainey Street), Bat Bar (218 E 6th Street) and Iron Works BBQ (100 Red River Street).
American Gods at SXSW: House of the Gods
There are new gods in America… and they’re headed to Austin! Join STARZ in kicking off Season 2 with an immersive experience that transports fans to the modern mythical world of American Gods. Step right into the war between the old and new gods in this interactive activation featuring a full bar, unique photo opportunities, and giveaways. Stop by at the Augustine on Rainey Street: Friday, March 8. from 12-6 p.m., Saturday, March 9, from 12-6 p.m., and Sunday, March 10. from 12-4 p.m.
The Weekly at SXSW
The Weekly is a new television series from The New York Times and it’s coming to FX and Hulu in June. You can learn more about one of TV’s most exciting new series during a SXSW Featured Session on Friday, March 8, at 5 p.m. There will also be a party celebrating the launch of The Weekly later that evening starting at 8 p.m. at The Mohawk.
Comcast NBCUniversal House
The “Comcast NBCUniversal House” is an interactive and immersive experience that will bring festival-goers closer to the content they love through groundbreaking technology, pop culture events and panels, live performances and more. Highlights include various activations around Bravo’s Project Runway, The Office selfie experience at Michael’s desk, Xfinity gaming lounge with the Evil Geniuses and more. Notable panel guests also include Jordan Peele, Lupita Nyong’o, Busy Philipps, Late Night writers Amber Ruffin & Jenny Hagel plus plenty more throughout the weekend.
Watch What Crappens Live Podcast
Not officially linked to a TV show, Watch What Crappens is a podcast focusing on Bravo reality series’ like The Real Housewives, the Vanderpump franchise, Below Deck, Southern Charm, etc. Hosts Ben Mandelker and Ronnie Karam AND special guests will dissect nearly every detail of every show that airs on Bravo LIVE for you at the Patreon House of Creativity at SXSW 2019 on Tuesday, March 12, at 12:30 p.m. More info here.
