After Olivia Wilde premiered her directorial debut at SXSW, the actress hosted an epic afterparty. And the affair just so happened to coincide with her 35th birthday.
Booksmart, which stars Kaitlyn Dever, Lisa Kudrow, Jason Sudeikis and Billie Lourd, among others, made its world premiere at the fest earlier in the evening. But it was the afterparty that really put Wilde in the spotlight.
Before introducing her musical guest for the evening, Wilde was surprised with a birthday cake as the crowd enthusiastically sang happy birthday to the first time director.
She then welcomed Santigold to the stage, who played an eight song set which included hits like Go, L.E.S. and Unstoppable.
The song Creator is what really brought the house down though. Or perhaps I should say that it brought the house UP.
As if the night wasn’t epic enough, Santigold and Wilde invited the crowd on stage to sing and dance along for the final song of the evening.
Check out the video and you’ll see how absolutely amazing the experience was.
Side note: I must say that Booksmart wins the award for best promo item. Their street teams were all over downtown handing out branded pre-charged battery packs. And we’re not talking about the cheapos. These packs even include an attached pin for both iPhone and Android. Well done, team.
Here’s where and when you can still catch Booksmart at SXSW:
Monday, March 11, at the Atom Theater at the ACC at 5:45 p.m.
