Weeks before the festival began, we started a master list of all the celebrities in Austin for SXSW 2017 (you’re welcome).
Of course, there are always last minute additions and special surprises. We’re talking stars like Kristen Bell, Adrian Grenier, Chloe Moretz, Dominic Purcell, Josh Peck, Brandy, etc. Many of whom we documented on our Instagram account.
Between all the surprise guests and scheduled appearances, there were lots of familiar faces that we spotted and chatted with during the festival.
Without further adieu, here are the top celebrities in Austin for SXSW 2017 that were spotted by ATXgossip.
1 – Michael Shannon
Michael Shannon attended the Texas Film Awards on March 9 to honor director Jeff Nichols.
2 – Shirley MacLaine
MacLaine received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Texas Film Awards on March 9.
3 – Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Michael Fassbender
The threesome attended the long awaited premiere of Terrence Malick’s Song to Song on March 10.
4 – Danny McBride
We spotted McBride grabbing a drink with pals after attending the Alien red carpet on March 10.
5 – Dev Patel
Patel attended SXSW to debut five new short films made by students around the globe as a part of Giorgio Armani’s ongoing Films of City Frames initiative. We spotted him hanging with friends on March 10.
6 – Gabourey Sidibe
The Empire star spoke on a panel entitled “The Female Lens: Creating Change Beyond the Bubble” on March 11.
7 – Jenny Slate
The Obvious Child producer and actress spoke on the same panel as Sidibe on March 11.
8 – Seth Rogen
Rogen spoke on March 11 as part of a panel about AMC’s Preacher, a show he created and has writes/ directs.
9 – Melanie Lynskey
The actress was a featured speaker on March 11.
10 – Nick Uhas
Perhaps not a full fledged celebrity, Uhas made a memorable appearance on Big Brother season 15. He attended the Fast Company Grill on March 11.
11 – Cole Sprout
We snapped this pic with the Riverdale star at the Lionsgate Lounge on March 11. You may know him better as one half of Zack and Cody or the child in the film Big Daddy.
12 – Octavia Spencer
Spencer attended a party celebrating her SXSW film Small Town Crime on March 11. You can read more about the event here.
13 – Michael Vartan
Vartan also stars in Small Town Crime.
14 – James Lafferty
The One Tree Hill star also attended the Small Town Crimes event. On March 13, we spotted him again attending the screening of the upcoming TV Land series Nobodies.
15 – John Hawkes
Hawkes plays the lead in Small Town Crimes and attended the same event as the gang above.
16 – Efren Ramirez
We chatted with Ramirez at the Supper Suite celebrating Small Town Crime, however, the filmmaker attended the festival with a short he produced titled It Began Without Warning.
17 – KJ Apa
The Riverdale star attended the CW/ Buzzfeed party honoring the freshman CW series.
18 – Justin Baldoni
The Jane the Virgin star spoke on a panel called “Entertaining with Empathy,” however, we snapped this pic with him at the CW’s Riverdale party.
19 – Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Finn Cole
While Cole and Robson tried out the FlowRider surf machine at the Animal Kingdom event on March 12, we took this pic of co-star Shawn Hatosy.
20 – Sophie Turner and Maizie Williams
The Game of Thrones stars moderated a panel with showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss on March 12.
21 – Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Johnny Flynn, Samantha Colley
Producers Howard and Grazer spoke at the Nat Geo event on March 12. Alongside series stars Flynn and Colley, they discussed the network’s first scripted series Genius, based on the life of Albert Einstein.
22 – Cooper Hefner
Hefner attended the Amazon Prime party on March 12 celebrating the upcoming series American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Series. Read more about it here.
23 – Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone, Michael McDonald, Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf, Rachel Ramras
The TV Land series Nobodies, produced by McCarthy and Falcone, premieres on March 29. At the March 13 screening, real life comedians Davidson, Dorf and Ramras discussed how the show came about, alongside their former Groundlings group members.
24 – MoShow (Plus, Ravioli and Manny the Frenchie)
The cat rapper performed at the Pet Rescue party on March 13. Manny the Frenchie was also there, as well as MoShow’s most famous feline pal, Ravioli.
25 – Maika Monroe, Maia Mitchell, Alex Roe, Timothee Chalamet
The young Hollywood stars attended the fest in support of the film Hot Summer Nights, which premiered on March 13. We spotted them at the afterparty at Seersucker, though it was too dark to snap any pics.
26 – Chloe Moretz
As the Hot Summer Night’s party raged inside, we took this pic with Moretz as she grabbed some fresh air out front.
27 – Alia Shawkat, John Reynolds, Meredith Hagner
The Search Party stars attended a party in their honor on March 14.
28 – Eleanor Coppola and Robert Schwartzman
Coppola celebrated her directorial debut at the Supper Suite on March 14. Schwartzman attended the Paris Can Wait party to support his aunt. You may know him as lead vocalist of the rock band Rooney. He’s also brother of actor Jason Schwartzman.
29 – Judd Apatow
The producer not only attended the May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers film premiere on March 15, he also rocked out side stage at their ACL Live show later that night.
30 – The Avett Brothers
The Avett gang walked the red carpet in support of the Apatow produced documentary, May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers.
31 – Jennifer Carpenter
The Dexter star attended the May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers with her husband, Seth Avett.
32 – Bob Schieffer
We spotted the CBS news correspondent at Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion, though it was too dark to get a pic. Luckily, we found this one online from the March 16 event.
33 – Elle King
Before her surprise appearance at the Luck Reunion, we spotted the X’s and Os singer enjoying the bands and a brew.
34 – Rachael Ray, Giada De Laurentiis, Anne Burrell
At the Rachael Ray Feedback House on March 17, we not only spotted host Ray. Famous chefs Burrell and De Laurentiis were also in attendance.
35 – Adrian Grenier
Grenier introduced De La Soul at Rachael Ray’s 10th annual Feedback part on March 18. While we weren’t able to get a decent pic, a friend snapped this one of the Entourage and his pooch at the Dell event earlier in the week.
And, while yours truly was being entertained by Garth Brooks (who surprised the crowd at the Broken Spoke earlier in the week), ATXgossip pals snapped pics of the brothers Hanson (left), The Roots, TI, Brandy, Method Man and Redman (all featured in the pic below).
And that’s it. Another SXSW has come and gone.
Now, we’ve got 365 days or so to rest up for the next one.
We just might need that much recovery time.
