While we’ve been practicing social distancing from people we’re becoming closer than ever with our televisions and we couldn’t help but notice the amount of Matthew McConaughey movies that are currently streaming. It’s no secret that the ATXgossip team is a big fan of Mr. Texas, so we thought we’d share our love by sharing some of our favorite movies.

Welcome Back to Matthew McConaughey Mondays!

Dazed and Confused (1993)

Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Jason London, Milla Jovovich, Cole Hauser, Adam Goldberg, Parker Posey and Renee Zellweger (as ‘Girl in Blue Truck’).

Synopsis: This coming-of-age film follows the mayhem of group of rowdy teenagers in Austin, Texas, celebrating the last day of high school in 1976. The graduating class heads for a popular pool hall and joins an impromptu keg party, however star football player Randall “Pink” Floyd (London) has promised to focus on the championship game and abstain from partying. Meanwhile, the incoming freshmen try to avoid being hazed by the seniors, most notably the sadistic bully Fred O’Bannion (Affleck).

Streaming: Amazon Prime Video (Rent for $3.99) or with your STARZ membership. Also available on Hulu (with subscription).

Fun Facts!

Besides being a cult classic, Dazed and Confused gifted us with Mr. Texas himself. McConaughey was plucked out of a bar for a small role in the film but when he got in front of the camera the Austin director Richard Linklater knew he had something. The famous line ‘alright, alright, alright’ was never actually scripted but improvised on a filler scene that is now the most well-known scene from the movie.

Another one of McConaughey’s lines that went on to live beyond Dazed and Confused was “Just Keep Livin’ “. Just Keep Livin’ or J.K. Livin is a foundation started by Matthew and his wife Camila. The foundation is dedicated to empowering high school students by providing them with the tools to lead active lives and make healthy choices for a better future. Near the end of March we wrote about  Matthew McConaughey playing virtual bingo with seniors, which you can read about here. It inspired us to make our own Matthew McConaughey movie bingo board. Stay tuned each week for a McConaughey movie to cross off your board!
